Skype Messenger – An awesome application to talk and see friends over internet
Skype is an amazing messenger service that provides voice chat over internet. The popularity of this application grew largely due to its feature of free call from one Skype to another Skype account, and a nominal charge on calls from Skype Application to a landline or mobile number. File transfer, video conferencing and instant messaging are yet other features in it like any other messenger application. This program distinguishes itself from a normal VOIP owing to its usage of peer-to-peer model unlike the much used client server model. The decentralized and distributed nodes have helped this application scale up rapidly without unnecessary complications.
It incorporates the general features of any messaging application such as user account, profile, and online/offline/busy status of the user. It allows its users to enter into group chat rooms and chat or talk with more than one person at the same time, where the maximum number of people allowed is 25 in a secure mode. It enables dialing landline or mobile number from S.k.y.p.e as well as receiving calls from regular phone to S.k.y.p.e. Video conferencing enabled people to see each other while chatting or talking provided system at both end has S-k-y-p-e installed and webcam integrated.
However it does not allow users to dial emergency number such as 911,999 in US and UK respectively, adhering to the Telecommunications Act. It does offers a secure communication and encrypts information using RSA and Advanced Encryption Standards. Interoperability due to decentralized system of this messenger service is also a limitation. This messenger service has received some criticism about poor customer support and slow billing updates as well. There are no official customer support details except for email address and web portal.
